This storefront is a real gem, I think. The name of this construction company is 우주 (宇宙 in Chinese characters), which is the Korean word for universe. The word 공업사 means construction company. 공 means build, while 업 means industry, and 사 means company. Above the sign, you can see the symbol of Buddhism. It appears that there is a Buddhist institute on the upper floor of the building. I cannot say whether the Buddhist institute has any affiliation with the construction company, but considering the cosmology of Buddhism, I think it very fitting that the construction company is called “Universe.”
But, is that exterior not unruly? Various beams and poles are stacked again the side of the building, overflowing onto the sidewalk. Various tools of the business spill all over the sidewalk, while the store itself appears to be closed.
I wish I could recall where I took this photo.
